Position Summary

Under general direction of the Assistant Dean of Clinical Operations, provides nursing care of patients: plans and oversees departmental staff nursing activities, ensuring patient satisfaction and adherence to policies, procedures , standards, and regulations.

Required Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Current registration with the State of Michigan Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse (RN), or registry eligible.
Two years’ work experience as a Registered Nurse.
Active CPR and BCLS certifications.
Previous experience supervising the work of others.
Interpersonal/human relations skills.
Attentiveness to detail.
Ability to prioritize duties and delegate responsibilities.
Ability to use protective equipment and respond to emergency situations.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.
Current basic cardiac life support and AED certification.
Work experience in ambulatory primary health care, preferably in a college health setting.
Understanding of the physical, psychological, and social demands placed on a university student.
Basic computer skills, including experience with medical practice software applications.

Duties & Responsibilities

Plans, organizes, and oversees clinical staff to provide patient care; evaluates care and ensures customer satisfaction: oversees the department’s daily staffing requirements: orients clinical staff to their job responsibilities; provides leadership in clinical problem solving.
Assists with staff recruitment and ensures a skills appropriate orientation plan for new clinical staff members.
Provides timely feedback; evaluates and schedules in- services/training as needed.
Serves as liaison between clinical support staff, administration and providers.
Delivers exceptional patient care by functioning at the top of the RN license.
Ensures department activities and records are in adherence to appropriate licensing and regulatory requirements; maintains clinical skill and knowledge necessary to set standard and work in clinical areas of nursing; assists with patient’s examinations and /or questions.
Develops, implements and interprets organizational policies and procedures, and nursing standards and regulations.
Assists with preparing the departmental fiscal budget.
Serves as primary emergency infection/disease liaison reporting responsibilities with health department and Central Michigan University.
Serves as front line support ensuring CMU Health remains in compliance with OSHA, MSDS, and blood borne pathogen training and standards.
Oversees disposable and pharmaceutical inventory.
Provides review and recommendations with prior authorizations, pre- certifications, and referral processes optimizing workflows and patient experiences.
Performs other duties as assigned.
