Position Summary

Central Michigan University School of Music seeks an Assistant/Associate Professor of Music (Director of Bands). Full-time, 9-month, tenure-track position. Duties: lead and coordinate band activities, conduct instrumental ensembles, teach undergraduate and graduate courses in instrumental conducting, methods, materials, and related areas; teach in other music areas subject to the candidate’s expertise and the needs of the School of Music; provide leadership in School of Music student recruitment initiatives; maintain an active scholarly, creative, and service agenda.

Required Qualifications

Doctorate in instrumental conducting or related area (ABD considered, doctoral degree must be completed by the time of appointment) or commensurate professional experience, outstanding conducting and ensemble development skills, successful college teaching experience, background in K-12 music education, qualifications to teach in related areas, and the ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.

Preferred Qualifications

Completed doctorate in instrumental conducting.

The School of Music is located in a state-of-the-art 119,000 square foot facility with a 500-seat concert hall housing a 61-rank Casavant organ, a 100-seat recital hall, MIDI technology labs, recording facilities, music resource center, and 79 practice rooms.
