Position Summary

The Exercise Science Division in the School of Health Sciences at Central Michigan University (CMU) is recruiting for a full-time, 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor, beginning August 2018. The School of Health Sciences offers undergraduate and graduate degrees and is located in The Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow College of Health Professions. The undergraduate exercise science major is recently COAES accredited and a new MS in exercise physiology program is launching in fall 2017. Starting salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Attractive benefits package and research support is available.
Faculty members are expected to demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching, participate in graduate and undergraduate research, student advising, and university service.
Teaching. Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in clinical exercise physiology, exercise testing and prescription, and exercise across the lifespan; possible teaching opportunities exist with the College of Medicine.
Research. Conduct research and scholarly endeavors that leads to securing extramural funding to support an ongoing research agenda; direct undergraduate and graduate research.
Advising and Service. Advise undergraduate and graduate students; involvement in campus and community service.

Required Qualifications

Earned doctorate in Clinical Exercise Physiology or related field; ABD considered if it is clear the degree will be completed by the start of the appointment. Demonstrated clinical exercise physiology experience; demonstrated successful college teaching; demonstrated commitment to diversity; effective oral/written communication skills. Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.

Preferred Qualifications

Certification in CES, RCEP. Experience or demonstrated interest in securing extramural grants and contracts; post-doctoral experience; demonstrated research agenda based on published works and/or external funding. Evidence of involvement with professional associations and organizations, including ACSM and AACVPR. Demonstrated leadership skills.

The School of Health Sciences offers programs in exercise and health fitness, public health, school heath education, and health service administration. The departmental faculty is dedicated to student-centered teaching, innovative delivery methodology, collaborative work projects, and applied research.
