Position Summary

As part of the Athletics Executive Leadership team, this position acts as the chief financial officer for Athletics by providing budget management and facilities & event operations management. Provides oversight of the processing of all Athletic personnel changes including the hiring of faculty and staff. This position is responsible for all aspects of NCAA and university compliance related to these areas.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree, preferably in athletic administration, accounting or business related field.
Four years of professional experience that is directly related to administration, budget, and/or finances with two of these years working in Intercollegiate Athletics, preferably at the Division I level.
Demonstrated experience in fiscal management.
Supervisory experience.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree.
Five years of professional experience that is directly related to budget and finance.
Familiarity with NCAA rules and regulations.

Duties & Responsibilities

Assists the Director of Athletics with financial strategies, strategic planning, and key internal operations initiatives.
Develops and manages a $28M budget.
Provides accurate analysis of important business matters affecting intercollegiate athletics.
In collaboration with the AD, oversees the department’s executive operations plans which are shared quarterly with the President of CMU.
Develops a reliable forecasting model for all departmental operating budgets and staffing/personnel budgets and levels.
Assumes financial signatory.
From a financial standpoint, coordinates non-conference scheduling for football, men’s basketball, and women’s basketball.
Manages year end transfers from fundraising accounts and any operational carry-forward or deficit communication to the university.
Oversees the processing of personnel transactions and hiring of faculty and staff within Athletics, in conjunction with HR/FPS.
Leads all athletics facilities and event operations initiatives providing direct oversight of the Associate AD/Facilities and Event Operations.
Monitors expenditures for each administrative unit and sports program.
Maintains financial accounts and records for all areas of athletics.
Provides electronic approvals for approved budgets.
Conducts regular meetings with head coaches and area directors to give current budget updates and fundraising progress.
Attends Athletics Committee meetings as needed.
Oversees NCAA Financial Reports, EADA reporting and other internal/external audits.
Oversight of annual equipment and purchasing, inventory audits in conjunction with Compliance and JumpForward.
Sport oversight and sport administration as assigned by the Athletic Director.
Performs other duties as assigned.
